How to be born again
I’ve titled this ‘connecting with God’ for a reason. God is a real personality who can be known. You can connect with him. He is a kind and loving person like you will never find anywhere else. To connect with God & know true peace with him you must be ‘born again’. Jesus said we cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven unless we become born again. If you pray to him he will hear you.
“For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” … John 3:17
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again[b] he cannot see the kingdom of God.” … John 3:3
My ongoing question throughout my teenage years was, “Is there a God … what are we here for?” In my soul was a deep emptiness and loneliness. I needed to know. After a long search I eventually found a person who explained the God of the Bible to me. I don’t remember all that he said now, except it involved the sacrifice of animals in the Old Testament. Looking back now I know he was introducing me to the concept that we are separated from God by our sin … by those things about which are wrong and about which our conscience nags us. We do instinctively know right from wrong, our hearts tell us if we would but listen. But then, we also know we’re powerless to do 100% right most of the time. And we think that if we believe in ‘God’ or ascribing to a ‘religion’, we will then be forced to obey a big set of impossible rules. And the rules indeed are impossible to obey … nobody can be good of themselves. It can’t be done. Believe me I tried. But we have a God who was birthed into the world as a person in human flesh. He came to show the world what God the father is like. He lived a simple life … not wealthy or prominent. He was born in an animal’s shelter and bedded in a feeding trough. He lived in a village they said ‘no good’ could come out of and had no beauty of which people would speak. He was hated by the religious people and drove the money changers out of the place where his father was worshiped. He died a horrible and cruel death … laying his life down willingly to bridge the gap between man and God, something that could only be done with sacrificial blood. This is a mystery but it is true. When you confess all the wrong you have done and accept the father’s forgiveness … when you are washed clean both inside and out … the peace you experience is beyond any reward this earth can offer you. Jesus will dwell as Spirit within us if we invite him to. He is the best friend you will ever have … he will never let you down and will always be there to dry your tears, comfort and uphold you all the days of your life. He will walk with you all of your days and change you into his likeness. Yes you will still know trials as you live this life, he is not a celestial fix-it-all. But you will know peace and joy and the strength to face all life’s hurdles.
This song that follows below by Julie Miller challenges you and asks the question … will you refuse his offer of eternal life … to exchange your life for his?
